Jonas Otterbeck joined CECC in its March Late Afternoon Talk, focusing on the topic of “Music, Islam and Consumer Culture”. During the session, he addressed the effects of consumer culture on Muslim contexts in Asia, discussing issues such as censorship, reactionary politics, the growth of religious pop, as well as the challenges posed by counter-culture music to religion and religious sensitivities.
