Popular Music and Lusophony: a path to a cross-cultural citizenship

Activity: Talk or presentationOral presentation

Description

Cultural citizenship expresses itself in manifold ways, allied to a plurality of representations, meanings and missions, also with regard to the concepts of inter and/or transculturalism, increasingly highlighted in the global age. Music is one form of representation and expression which has accompanied the development of such concepts and experiences. In this sense, examples of Portuguese Popular Music collaborations stand out inside the Portuguese speaking world as paths to a cultural citizenship, whether by aesthetic or empirical forms. Through specific sounds, the approach of certain themes, the use and development of certain subjects, such music is a form of expression that searches an intercultural
approach, highlighting, in their differences, common factors of identification. Thus, as a convergent field, music can be taken as a vehicle with large potential to promote a cross-cultural citizenship, being at its service to undertake a mission of representation of disparate identities that, therefore, coexist and are
related to each other throughout a path of mutual cultural enrichment.
