Reconstructing Memory Through Community-Driven Art

Description

This proposal outlines an artistic initiative designed to revitalize the intangible heritage of local communities, paying tribute to identity-defining professions and traditions that are often overlooked, at risk of extinction, or already lost. Far from being merely an artistic intervention, this project engages in a profound process of research and emotional connection, where local and collective memories are reconstructed through active community collaboration. The primary objective is to foster a lasting and reflective experience, encouraging participants to assume an active role in connecting with the past and cultivating meaningful relationships with their heritage. Grounded in a methodology that embraces slow, collaborative processes, the project begins in each location by establishing a close interaction between the artist, their team, and the local community. The final output takes the form of a mural – a shared visual memory – which reinforces a sense of belonging and strengthens the connection between the community and its heritage. Additionally, the project will culminate in a documentary episode that promotes a deeper, more attentive engagement with deeply rooted memories, fostering resilience against the erasure of time.
