Born of the Kulturfabrik team's desire to support the local art scene, Squatfabrik is a program of short artistic residencies born in 2020, in the midst of the global pandemic. Following its success, the project has become a Kufa staple, and celebrates its fifth edition. Four artist duos (always composed of one local and one European artist) are in residence at Kufa between April and September 2024.The first artist duo of this fifth edition consists of Lisa Khol (LU) & de Miguel Tavares et José Gomez (PT), who'll be in residency from May 27th to June 23th 2024. Their Get-Out (which marks the end of each residency) will take place on Friday 21st June (from 6 to 9 pm) in the Galerie. There you can get to know the artists (better) and discuss their projects and their residency over a drink provided by Kufa.
Lisa Kohl (LU)
Lisa Kohl (*1988) lives and works between Luxembourg and Germany. As a graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels – La Cambre, Brussels (BE), Lisa Kohl has developed an artistic practice which takes on various shapes : digital media, space installations, field research, documentation, staging, narration and visual poetry. Her artistic excavations revolve around the ephemeral, the absent and the imaginary. Aesthetic phenomena of absence, migration and situatedness play a central role in her work.
Miguel Tavares et José Gomez (PT)
Miguel C. Tavares (filmmaker) and José Alberto Gomes (sound artist) have been working together since 2011 when they crossed paths while making the short film Ínsua. Since then, their work has regularly developed into audio-visual works. This duo has explored the various potentialities of this universe, which ranges from the cinematographic to the installation and performative. Their shared portfolio includes the exploration of more classic objects such as documentaries, more authoral hybrid spaces in which the relationship between sound and image is not so hierarchical, the world of video art, and performative contexts such as concert films and music and visuals.
