The aim of this project is to attempt at new pedagogical approach to teaching Legal Translation by means of a cross curricular teaching and learning methodology. Based on our experience as Translation and EFL teachers at a Portuguese Higher Institution in the Applied Foreign Languages course (major in Translation) and the Law Degree (Legal English), we argue that collaborative and peer-review work in the acquisition of specific legal and financial vocabulary is beneficial to students’ learning outcomes. Both course syllabi share the legal and financial specific vocabulary as well as development and consolidation of specific English as Foreign Language skills. Our intention is that students learn how to understand the complexities of standard English usage and specialized English- Portuguese translation, the cultural aspects involved as well as apply and consolidate the translation skills previously acquired. In terms of qualitative results, the project proved to be successful in contributing towards the discussion between the translation specialist and the specialist translator, fostering students’ reflection on translation stratagies and implications, providing transferrable problem-solving skills in closer real life experience, as well as increasing engagement and motivation.
