The Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Health (CIIS) is the Health Research Unit of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa classified with Very Good by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) (UID/04279).

CIIS is present in 3 regions of Portugal, in 3 faculties spread over 4 academic units and integrates researchers who are organized in 5 multidisciplinary and multi-localized scientific platforms.

CIIS supports graduate training courses at the bachelor's, master's, integrated master's, doctoral and postgraduate training levels.

CIIS focuses on specific sectors of Healthcare, producing: i) Biomedical and Clinical Research focused on the clarification of disease mechanisms and health determinants, aiming at the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and efficient management of diseases, living conditions and health promotion. CIIS produces multiple molecular, clinical and quality of life data with the potential to generate new solutions in Health, namely in Care; ii) Solutions for preventive and participatory health as a result of two-way communication between academia and the business/industrial environment, especially in the area of information technology and AI, aiming at the design of eHealth solutions to support decision and clinical intervention, diagnosis with the potential to be personalized, including non-invasive solutions, promotion of literacy and intervention in health policies. The empowerment of vulnerable groups is one of the commitments of CIIS research.

The objectives of CIIS respond to challenges: i) Scientific | Generate knowledge for Precision Health with a focus on chronic diseases and vulnerable groups; ii) Translation | Development and implementation of digital and AI technology for diagnostic, follow-up and care delivery solutions; iii) Capacity Building | Build scientific support to innovate in training; iv) Science Communication| Production of content based on digital media for Health Promotion and Science and Health Literacy.
