Biography
Alfredo Brant is a photographer, artist, and Ph.D. candidate in Culture Studies at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (The Lisbon Consortium). His current research explores the production of knowledge through photographic practices and decolonial protocols in artistic and educational spaces. Grounded in the field of visual culture, he is interested in developing strategies of visual literacy engaging with the notion of the affects of images and the relationship between words and images. He also explores the construction of visual narratives through documentary photography. After graduating in Journalism (UFMG, 2005) in Brazil, Brant moved to France, where he completed a MA in Photography and Contemporary Art (Université Paris 8, 2010). He was an Erasmus student in Italy at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna (2010) and lived in London, working in corporate photography (2013). Alfredo has developed artistic projects in Canada, India, and France. His work has been presented in photography exhibitions in France, Switzerland, Italy, and Brazil. He has also taught at the Instituto Internacional de Fotografia (Brazil - São Paulo, 2018-2019) and Universidade Alcântara Sénior (Portugal – Lisbon, 2022-2023), developed photo-book projects in Brazil, and self-published his project Deslocações in 2019.
