Biography

Holding a degree in Applied Modern Languages from the University of the Azores (2006), postgraduate degrees in Culture and Communication (2008), and in Translation and Language Consultancy (2011), from the same university, as well as a master’s degree in Translation from the University of Lisbon (2017), Ana Catarina Brasil is a PhD candidate in Translation Studies (FLUL-UL, FCSH-UNL, FCH-UCP) (2024). With a PhD thesis on the (un)translatability of açorianidade (Azoreanity), based on the translations of the novel Mau Tempo no Canal, by Azorean author Vitorino Nemésio, her research interests focus mainly on Translation Studies and Island Studies. Ana Catarina Brasil is also a freelance translator and a Portuguese Language teacher, as well as a Guest Lecturer at the University of the Azores. Previous projects: MA thesis – "My Second Manner: challenges posed to translation by F. Scott Fitzgerald's stylistics", under the supervision of Professor Margarida Vale de Gato.
