Biography
Ana Leite Oliveira is the head of the Biomaterials and Biomedical Technology Laboratory at CBQF and Director of the Master in Biomedical Engineering at Escola Superior de Biotecnologia, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, where she is teaches courses in the area of biomaterials. She holds Habilitation in Biotechnology- Biomedical Science and Engineering at UCP, and a PhD from the University of Minho (in 2008), collaborating with Depuy Orthopaedics, Inc., USA and CSIC, Madrid, followed by a Post-Doc partnering with Tufts University, Boston, USA. She gained expertise in the processing, modification and terminal sterilization of natural-based biomaterials for tissue regeneration, working presently in skin-related applications. She has published over 80 international peer reviewed articles and book chapters and participated in more than 100 international scientific and technological conferences, mostly as an oral presenter or as an invited lecturer. The innovation in her work generated 5 patents and links to industry, working with companies to reach new products/processes.
Research and Innovation interests: Valorisation of natural polymers and biological extra-cellular matrix into functional medical devices and tissue engineered products; alternative sterilization technologies to preserve sensitive biomaterials. From lab to market: working with companies to reach innovative products, processes and solutions.
Project Management Coordination and Evaluation: She presently coordinates several projects with the academia and industry sectors, as has experience on EU and National project management and coordination. Since 2008, she has been assisting the European Commission as an Independent Expert (Evaluator, Reviewer) for several actions.
Education/Academic qualification
PhD, New Biological Driven Methods for Producing Bone-Like Calcium-Phosphate Coatings Containing Bioactive Agents on Orthopaedic Implants, University of Minho
Award Date: 8 Jan 2008
