Ana Margarida Abrantes is Professor of Languages and Culture Studies at the Faculty of Human Sciences since 2012 and senior researcher at CECC-Research Center for Communication and Culture of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa since 2007. She studied German and English at the Universities of Aveiro, Essen and Innsbruck. After completing an MA in cognitive linguistics in 2001, she received her PhD in German language and literature from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in 2008. As an Assistant Professor at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Viseu between 1997 and 2006, she was member of the Interuniversity Research Center for German Studies at the University of Coimbra. She was visiting researcher at the Universities of Aarhus, at Case Western Reserve University and at the University of Oslo, and guest lecturer at PUC Minas. She is member of the DAAD Advisory Council on German Studies since 2016. As a member of the research group on Cognition and Translatability, she works at the intersection of culture studies and cognitive science, focusing on cognitive poetics and on how literary meaning emerges from language. She has published in fields of cognitive literary studies, cognitive semiotics, cognitive culture studies and German language and literature.
