Biography

Ana Mineiro is a Full Professor of Cognitive Sciences (Cognition & Language) at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and is currently Director of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing. Ana Mineiro has an habillitation in Language and Cognition Sciences from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Lisbon and a post-doctorate in Neurolinguistics and Linguistics Applied to Sign Languages ​​from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP). Graduated in Modern Languages ​​and Literatures at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon where she also obtained her Masters in Linguistics. She is a principal investigator in several scientific and development projects funded and won in competitive public tenders (4.4 million euros). She brings together one hundred and a half scientific publications, divided between books, dictionaries, chapters, editorials and articles in very prestigious magazines (Quartile 1 and 2) such as Nature's Scientific Reports, Plos_One, Frontiers, the Journal of Language Evolution, the Sign language and linguistics. She directs a Translational Neuroscience Platform at the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Health. For her scientific activity she has received awards and distinctions. She was the researcher responsible for creating the Portuguese Sign Language Reference Corpus and the first automatic translation AVATAR between written Portuguese and LGP. In São Tomé and Príncipe she led a humanitarian and research project that led to the emergence of a new sign language and the education of a forgotten and vulnerable population.  Currently she is interested in the genesis and evolution of language in the human species, maintaining research into the linguistics of sign languages ​​and teaching for the deaf.
