Personal profile


António Melo is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences - Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Braga Regional Centre), where teaches Latin Language, Classical Culture and Classical Matrices in Portuguese Literature.  He holds a PhD in Humanities, since 2001, in speciality of Latin Literature with a doctoral thesis entitled «O Pe. Luís da Cruz, S. J. and the tragicomedy Iosephus», under the guidance of the PhD Nair de Nazaré Castro Soares (University of Coimbra). Degree in Humanities in 1984.

He was coordinator of the Master of the Classical Studies (2004-2006; 2009-2012) and the Sociocultural Animation degree (2002-206). He taught at the Secondary Education (1982-1987), in the School of Higher Education – Vila Real (1987) and in the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro – UTAD (1987-1988).

His main research interests are linked with Classical Studies and Renaissance Humanism (History, Theatre, Literary Theory and History of Science). He has been collaborating regulary in several research projects developed in Portugal (University of Aveiro) and Spain (University of Extremadura and University of Granada).
