Biography

António Manuel Alves Martins was born in São Bartolomeu de Messines in 1963. He belongs to presbytery of the Diocese of the Algarve. He attained his first degree in Theology at the Faculty of Theology at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in 1987 and a PhD in Dogmatic Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University with a dissertation titled ‘A condição corpórea da pessoa' [The Bodily Condition of a Human Being], a study into the theological anthropology of J. L. Ruiz de la Peña (1937-1996). He is an assistant lecturer in Theological Anthropology at the Faculty of Theology at UCP, Lisbon, and is responsible for various publications. His research work focuses on matters of bodily condition both within the context of Christian tradition and that of contemporary culture. He held the position of secretary of the Faculty of Theology between January 2009 and November 2014 and is a member of the UCP Scientific Society. He is full member of the Research Centre for Theology and Religious Studies of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
