Biography
Graduation (1992) in Chemical Engineering, and Ph.D. (2006) in Chemical Engineering, with a thesis entitled "Transport Phenomena in Porous Media - Single Phase Flow and Mass Transport", both from the University of Porto - Faculty of Engineering (FEUP), and MBA (2007) by the School of Management of the University of Porto (EGP). He is currently a junior researcher at LEPABE/FEUP, with research interests in the assessment of the Life Cycle and sustainability evaluation of products and processes, with a focus on renewable energy systems (e.g. biofuels) and energy storage using chemical compounds. He was a professor in several higher education institutions, in particular as a at the School of Technology and Management of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (1997/1998), as an assistant professor in the doctoral program in Sustainable Energy Systems of the MIT Program Portugal (2009 - 2012), and as an assistant professor at the Universidade Lusófona do Porto (2012-2015). He has collaborated as an external professor at the School of Biotechnology of the Catholic University of Portuguesa - Porto (1998 - 2005), in the integrated master's degrees in Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering at the Faculty of Engineering of Porto, in the Magellan MBA of Porto Business School, in ISMAI in the degree in Renewable Energies, and as an external professor at the Universidade Lusófona do Porto. He was also a trainer in professional training or technological specialization in companies courses at several Portuguese technological centers (e.g. CITEVE), where he taught subjects such as occupational health and safety, mathematics, chemistry, physics; among others. He has a h-index 18 with more than 70 publications in international journals with scientific review, and more than 50 communications and articles in international conference proceedings in various areas in particular: assessment of the sustainability of chemical and/or industrial processes; development and sustainability assessment of new processes for the production of biofuels with a focus on second generation, in particular microalgae; assessment of the environmental impact of products and processes based on the methodology of life cycle analysis; and systems for generation and renewable energy and energy storage, transport phenomena in porous media and chemical reactors. He collaborated in more than 20 research projects, both with other researchers and with the industry, having been a principal investigator in an IJUP-Empresas project financed by Sogrape SA with the aim of assessing the sustainability of two wine brands taking into account their cycle life. He has performed activities of knowledge transfer and valorization activities, namely as a co-inventor of the Patent for a new static mixer, NetMixTM, technology currently marketed by the company “Fluidinova” (http://www.fluidinova.com/), and in participation in programs to support entrepreneurship for the development of business plans for two technology-based companies, one of which is active: Ideia.m (http://www.ideiam.com/) Was a member of NATO / SPS Pilot Study on Clean Products and Processes (2004-2008) and is a member of the European Biofuels Technology Platform and the EUALAGE COST action. Collaborated in the organization of several scientific conferences, including the “Topical Symposium“ Best Practices for Transfer of Sustainable Technologies to Industry ”of the referred NATO / SPS Pilot Study (2007),“ Ecojornadas de Engenharia de Ambiente ”(2012-2014) at Universidade Lusophone of Porto, and the “Energy Days of ISMAI (2015-216). Currently he is member of the European Biofuels Technology Platform, in the sections of sustainability evaluation.
