António Oliveira was born in Porto. He completed his Bachelor degree at ESMAE - IPP, studied with professor Laszlo Simon at the Hochschüle der Kunst under the Socrates/Erasmus programme and obtained a Master of Music degree at The Hartt School, University of Hartford, Connecticut, USA, where he studied with professor Luiz de Moura Castro. He is a professional musician and has been working as a piano teacher at the Conservatório de Música do Porto since 2002. He has performed in solo, chamber music and orchestral recitals in Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Finland, Canada and the United States of America. He has recorded several CDs, commissioned and made the world première of works by Portuguese composers, recorded for RTP and RDP Antena 2. As a member of the Human Neurobehavioral Laboratory António is interested in "understanding the neurological foundations associated with learning music", "the effects of music on behavior and study", "understanding how the understanding of neurological development and the use of psychological tools can enable the identification of candidates for the admission exams to music conservatories who have the best conditions to begin the process of formal learning of music", to name but a few. At the moment, António has been focused on the development of the studies leading to his doctoral thesis on the neuropsychological foundations associated with musicality.
