Biography

Carla Santos completed her PhD in Biotechnology in 2017 at Universidade Católica Portuguesa Escola Superior de Biotecnologia. Is currently Doctorate Researcher at UCP, working on the nutritional and agronomic characterization of different plant germplasms and implementing more sustainable agricultural practices. Published 40 articles in scientific peer-reviewed journals and 7 book chapters. Currently is the supervisor of 1 PhD student. Was the recipient of 10 awards, being the latest the FESPB Young Scientists Award (in 2023) in recognition of the achievements as an outstanding young European researcher in Plant Biology. Founded the LeguCon Consortium (www.legucon.pt), which aims to increase legume production in Portugal and support sustainable consumption patterns, bridging science and citizens. Has an h index of 19 and a total number of citations of 1029 (Scopus June 2025).
