Biography
Cristina Isabel Vieira Rodrigues holds the position of Scientific Research Fellow at the Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry, within the School of Biotechnology at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, as part of the "MEDISMART - Mediterranean Citrus: innovative soft processing solutions for S.M.A.R.T (Sustainable, Mediterranean, Agronomically evolved, nutRitionally enriched, Traditional) products" project since March 2023. Throughout this project, she has been involved in valorizing residues from the food industry, particularly focusing on the use of citrus peels for the extraction and characterization of bioactive compounds for food, nutraceutical, and cosmetic applications. She completed her Master's in Applied Biochemistry in 2022 at the School of Sciences, University of Minho, and her Bachelor's in Aquatic Sciences in 2019 at the Abel Salazar Biomedical Sciences Institute, University of Porto. Her master's thesis, titled "Potential of Atlantic codfish (Gadus morhua) skin collagen and derivatives on skincare," was developed at the ICVS/3Bs Associate Laboratory. She is the author of 2 scientific articles, 3 scientific posters, and a co-author of another poster. During her Bachelor's, she served as the Vice-President of the course committee and participated in organizing 4 scientific events. She is proficient in programs such as ImageJ, OriginPro®, GraphPad Prism, IBM® SPSS®, PyMol, FlowJo, and Microsoft Office. Cristina has attended 21 conferences/congresses and holds a B2-level English diploma recognized by the European Council.
