Biography

Diana Isabel Pinto de Almeida holds a BSc degree in Biology from the Faculty of Sciences of Porto University (FCUP), and an MSc degree in Microbiology from the University of Aveiro. Since the beginning of her scientific career, she has published 3 peer-reviewed articles in journals and 2 book chapters, plus several posters/oral communications in scientific conferences. She is currently working on a research fellowship under an FCT-funded project targeting the development of microencapsulation technologies applied to beneficial gut extreme oxygen-sensitive bacteria, more specifically Akkermansia muciniphila. Parallelly, she co-supervised a Microbiology undergraduate student. Additionally, Diana has also participated in several outreach activities promoted by ESBUCP/CBQF over the years, namely, in Semana Aberta da Escola Superior de Biotecnologia. The main areas of interest in research are largely focused on microbiology, with an emphasis on next-generation probiotics research and microbiome studies, and also biotechnological strategies such as microencapsulation.
