Biography

Dora Fernandes is a doctoral researcher in Culture Studies at the Lisbon Consortium / CECC (Research Centre for Communication and Culture) Universidade Católica Portuguesa, holding a BA in Art History and an MA in Museology from the University of Lisbon. Her research is focused on the National Museum of Azulejo, combining art (tiles and ceramics), sociomuseology and culture studies. With over 20 years of experience, Dora has been dedicated to the preservation of public heritage. From 2002 to 2009, she co-authored and coordinated a project in the Portuguese Ministry of Justice, focused on surveying, protecting, and enhancing the cultural heritage of Portuguese judicial courts. Since 2010, she has been working in the field of museology, at the National Museum of Azulejo, where she currently serves as the Head of Programming and Education Department. The most pressing areas of her work are: cultural programming, content production, community projects, exhibition curation; art and communication, cultural mediation, art education, and public accessibility.
