He was recently awarded a contract through the Scientific Employment Stimulation Contest – Individual to develop his research project.
His research has been centered around the development of byproducts and green biotechnology-based solutions for the biomedical, cosmeceutical, and nutraceutical industries. This strong industrial connection reflects itself in the 7 industry-university projects which resulted in 4 patents (2 granted). Analysis of his CV shows that his research efforts followed three main topics: i) Valorisation of agro-food byproducts in a circular economy context through the exploitation of the biological potential of their constituents; ii) characterization of extracted compounds' biological potential targeting desirable properties such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and cellular metabolism modulation; iii) designing of delivery and formulation solutions, including nanotechnological ones, for the usage and delivery of bioactive compounds. He has published 73 papers, with 1799 citations and an h-index of 23 (Scopus, December 2023), and 8 book chapters.
