Biography

Francisco Branco is Associate Professor at the Catholic University of Portugal. He has held a PhD in social work (with a specialization in social policy and social movements) since 2001. He teaches social work history, social research and social policy, and coordinates the PhD in Social Work. Prof Branco is member of the Catolica Research Centre for Individual, Family and Social Wellbeing at the university. He is a member of the Social Work, History and Research and Social Work and Policy Practice research groups of the European Social Work Research Association and member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the international journal Critical and Radical Social Work. He was a member of the research project “Adequate Income in Portugal” (2012-17), the Portuguese research team in the “European Reference Budgets Network” pilot project (2014-15), and the team of the research project Trajectories and daily life of poverty in Portugal (2019-20). His research focuses on poverty studies and public policies, especially citizenship, minimum social protection policies, child welfare. He also have as research focus social work as a profession, social work history, policy practice in social work.
