Biography

 Freni Kekhasharú Tavaria has a degree in Biology, a Master's degree in Soil Sciences (specialization in Microbiology) from Texas A&M University, USA, and a PhD in Biotechnology (specialization in Food Science and Engineering from the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia (Universidade Católica Portuguesa). She is presently an Assistant Professor at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, where she teaches Microbiology, Immunology and Cell culture. She has been coordinator of the Degree in Microbiology since 2021 and member of the Scientific Council since 2010. She was part of the Board of Directors of ESB/UCP (2018-2021) as Deputy Director for the Management of Organizational Processes. She is currently a member of the board of directors of CBQF/UCP, being responsible for Scientific Infrastructures and Platforms. She is also a researcher in charge of the Microbiology Laboratory, focusing her research on the use of antimicrobial compounds applied to the medical field, namely in textiles and in products for use in the dental clinic, with the objective of controlling and treating conditions of the skin and oral cavity. She has participated in several national and international congresses and is co-author of several scientific articles with international arbitration. She collaborated in the preparation and execution of several national and international projects such as Be@t, PlantCovid, Bioma, Tex4wound, 2nd Dermis, Biotherapies and Quitoral and is a referee for several international periodicals. She supervises master's and doctoral students as well as students in the final project within the scope of the degree in Microbiology and Bioengineering and Erasmus. She participates in science dissemination activities in the community, such as the Biofase and Summer with Science programmes. He has more than 60 publications (articles in international journals and book chapters) indexed in the ISI web of knowledge/SCOPUS and more than 70 communications in international conferences.
