Biography

Isa Soares da Silva is a young researcher with a BSc. in Biochemistry (2017-2020) and a Master's in Biotechnology (2021-2022) both at the University of Aveiro (UA). During this period she has engaged in several activities that allowed her to develop some personal and soft skills, such as event organisation, association member, mentoring, time management and leadership. One highlight of her academic journey was the distinction of "Best Finalist of the Master's Degree in Biotechnology - Prémio ROTARY CLUB OF AVEIRO - AMÉRICO REBOREDO" attributed by UA and the Rotary Club of Aveiro. In 2022, her research path began when she did her Master's dissertation partially at the Aveiro Institute of Materials (CICECO-UA) and the Centro de Biotecnologia e Química Fina (CBQF) at ESB-UCP (Escola Superior de Biotecnologia - Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Porto). This project allowed her to explore different hard skills in sustainable extraction, bioactive characterisation, and biomaterial prototype development. Thus, this work resulted in one research article as the first author (Silva, I et al., 2024, Food Research International; IF: 8.1), one oral communication, and one poster. In June of 2023, she was hired by CBQF as a Laboratory Technician for a project entitled "BioShoes4All, Innovation and capacity building of the footwear industry for a Sustainable bio-economy". This project is improving her laboratory skill set, allowing her to learn more about research, and collaborate with other entities. It also enables her to have some oral communications as well as co-author some posters, technical sheets, and peer-reviewed papers. For her scientific journey, she envisions a PhD in the biomedical field, where she can acquire new personal, soft and hard skills.
