Biography

Isa Soares da Silva is a young researcher and PhD student at the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia – Universidade Católica Portuguesa (ESB-UCP), working on bioactive peptides in the gut-skin axis for psoriasis. She holds a BSc in Biochemistry (2017-2020) and a Master's in Biotechnology (2021-2022), both from the University of Aveiro (UA). Throughout her academic journey, she has engaged in several activities that enhanced her personal and soft skills, such as event organization, association membership, mentoring, time management, and leadership. A notable achievement was being awarded the "Best Finalist of the Master's Degree in Biotechnology - Prémio ROTARY CLUB OF AVEIRO - AMÉRICO REBOREDO", granted by UA and the Rotary Club of Aveiro. Her research career began in 2022 with her Master's dissertation, conducted partially at the Aveiro Institute of Materials (CICECO-UA) and the Centro de Biotecnologia e Química Fina (CBQF) at ESB-UCP. This work allowed her to develop expertise in sustainable extraction, bioactive characterization, and biomaterial prototype development, culminating in a first-author research article. In June 2023, she was hired as a Laboratory Technician at CBQF for the BioShoes4All project, focused on innovation and capacity building in the footwear industry for a sustainable bio-economy. This position further refined her laboratory skill set, provided opportunities for collaboration with multiple research entities, and enabled her to contribute to oral communications, co-author posters, technical sheets, and peer-reviewed publications. Currently, as a PhD student, she is dedicated to studying bioactive peptides and their role in the gut-skin axis for psoriasis, a field that bridges biotechnology and biomedical research. Through her PhD, she aims to expand her knowledge and expertise, acquiring new personal, soft, and hard skills to contribute meaningfully to the scientific community.
