Biography

Jane Duarte is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Human Sciences (UCP) where she teaches English and Translation (1st, 2nd and 3rd Study Cycles). She holds a Master’s in Comparative Literature and a Phd in Modern Languages and Literature, with a specialization in Language and Culture. Alongside over 20 years of teacher experience in higher education, she has undertaken work as a translator and proofreader of technical and scientific texts. She is the author of "The Portuguese Adventure into Wonderland, A Relevance-Theoretic Approach to Translation". She is also a researcher at CECC, the Centre of Communication and Cultural Studies where she has worked and published articles on digital literacies and multimodality within the scope of Translation Studies. Her current research focuses on new teaching methodologies in Translator Training, including topics such as Service Learning, Peer-Mentoring and the integration of AI in translator training. She was part of a team of teachers that received the 2022 European Language Label, a prestigious award presented by the Erasmus+ National Agency, for their educational project"LEA Translators for Ukraine."
