Biography

Jessica Roberts is an assistant professor of communication at Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon. She is the author of the 2024 book, "Effective Journalism: How the Information Ecosystem Works and What Journalists Should Do About It," and co-author of “Attacks on the American Press” (2021) and “American Journalism and ‘Fake News’: Examining the Facts” (2018). Her research examines the contributions and ethical practices of non-traditional journalistic actors to public information, ranging from citizen journalism to social media, as well as journalistic ethics and information, focusing on fake news. She has had research published in Journalism, Digital Journalism, Social Media + Society, and the International Journal of Communication, among others. She earned her Ph.D. in Journalism Studies at the University of Maryland and her M.A. in Journalism at the University of Southern California.
