Biography

João Francisco Pereira, PhD candidate in Contemporary History of Portugal (20th Century) at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of Universidade Nova de Lisboa (NOVA FCSH). He is a researcher at the History, Territories and Communities department (HTC - CEF NOVA FCSH) and at the Center for Studies in Religious History (CEHR-UCP). In these two research units, he is involved in several projects and dynamics, such as the annual organization of the "Local History Congress" and the Project "April 25th - continuities, ruptures and recompositions". He is also a PhD scholarship holder from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). He previously worked as a research assistant for the Commemorative Commission of the 50th anniversary of April 25th. His areas of research and interest are the social and political history of Portugal in the 20th century (1960s and 1970s). He has also developed some research on the cultural and religious history of the 18th century, especially with regard to the Catholic Enlightenment in Portugal. His doctoral project refers to the constitution of the diocese of Setúbal (1966-1975).
