Biography

João Luís Marques, graduated from FAUP Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (2006), received his PhD in Architecture from the same school in 2017 with the thesis ¿The church in the city, service and reception, Portuguese architecture 1950-1975¿, financed by FCT. Erasmus student at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia. He did a curricular internship in Barcelona, with Carlos Ferrater. He began his professional activity in Porto, collaborating with Camilo Cortesão, Serôdio Furtado and Correia Ragazzi, alongside the liberal profession he continues today. Researcher at the Center for Studies in Architecture and Urbanism - Architecture, Theory, Project and History group since 2013, he is a collaborator at the Centre of Religious History Studies (Centro de Estudos de História Religiosa) - Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP-CEHR), since 2015. Focusing research on Portuguese architecture, he has organized meetings and exhibitions and editorial projects, many outside the academic world, thanks to a network of partnerships with different institutions, including the Marques da Silva Foundation and Calouste Gulbenkian. He carried out various consultancy work on built heritage. He has been a member of the international platform OARC-Observatório de Arquitectura Religiosa Contemporánea, since 2018; and ICOMOS - International Council on Monuments and Sites, since 2023. His teaching experience falls within the disciplinary area of Architecture, subarea Theory and History of Architecture. He was a Guest Assistant (2013-2015) and is currently a Guest Assistant Professor (2018-present) of the curricular unit History of Portuguese Architecture, and History of the City of Oporto (2023-present) f at MIarq-FAUP.
