Biography

Born in Monção, 1964. He holds a doctorate in Fundamental Theology (Philosophisch-Theologische Hochschule Sankt Georgen, Frankfurt, Germany), with a thesis on the theological reception of Gadamer's philosophy of art. He is Full Professor at the Faculty of Theology (Braga, Porto and Lisbon), and guest lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences at Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Member of the Scientific Councils of Teologia (Milan), Salmanticensis (Salamanca), Revista Teología (Buenos Aires), Perspetiva Teológica (Belo Horizonte), Limina (Graz), Kairós (Fortaleza). He is the director of Ephata journal, Revista Portuguesa de Teologia, Faculty of Theology at UCP. In addition to the doctoral thesis (Die Kunst als Ort immanenter Transzendenz, Frankfurt: Knecht, 1997), he published Homo credens: para uma teologia da fé (UCEditora, 2002, 2nd Ed. 2004), Dizer Deus na Pós-modernidade (Ed. Teologia Breve I (Braga: Frente e Verso, 2021) as well as more than two hundred articles in various books and magazines, national and foreign. In 2021, he was awarded with the “Árvore da Vida – Father Manuel Antunes” prize, by the Portuguese Episcopal Conference.
