Biography

João Pedro Oliveira teaches Asian Studies at Portuguese Catholic University (UCP), Lisbon. He is a PhD candidate in Culture Studies (FCH-UCP), for which he is writing a dissertation titled The Retellings of the Ramaya¿a and the Idea of India: Culture and Society (2010-2020), holds an M.A. in Linguistics (FLUL), for which he has written a thesis titled Tóri di Babel: Humor e Língua na Literatura em Crioulo de Macau (Tóri di Babel: Humour and Language in the Literature in Macanese Creole), a B.A in Language, Literature and Culture (FLUL) and another one in Cinema (ESTC). His research interests include: Asian languages and writing systems; narrative traditions and identity in Asia; Asian literature and cinema; popular culture and nationalism in Asia; Asian religions and philosophies.
