Biography
Joana Barbosa Pereira holds a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Leeds (UK), where she studied human genetic diversity to reconstruct the evolutionary history of modern populations. Until March 2025, she was a Junior Researcher at i3S/IPATIMUP (FCT CEEC 2017).
In recent years, Joana has specialized in scientific project management and science communication. She has coordinated multidisciplinary projects, managing timelines, team communication, and documentation for reporting and audits. She also led science outreach initiatives, including exhibitions, workshops, and public engagement activities, making complex scientific concepts accessible to diverse audiences.
Joana is co-author of 17 peer-reviewed publications (4 as first author), with an h-index of 13, and served as co-Principal Investigator in a nationally funded project. Her expertise combines scientific research, project coordination, and a commitment to connecting science with society.
