Joana Maria Carvalho Gomes is a PhD student (FCT grant) at Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Escola Superior de Biotecnologia (ESB-UCP) since Jan 2022. She has a degree in Applied Biology in 2014 (Universidade do Minho, Braga, Portugal) and a Master's Degree in Applied Microbiology in 2017 (ESB-UCP, Porto, Portugal). She worked on the research project 'PHYS: Development of equipment for effective and sustainable disinfection of clothing' (Feb-Sep 2021). Results from her research work were disseminated to the scientific community by two research papers published in international scientific journals with peer-review, one book chapter (by invitation) (all as the first author), and five poster communication presented in (inter)national scientific meetings. She also did a Post-graduation in Entrepreneurship and Innovation for the Textile and Clothing Industry (2017), developing a product idea for a textile with the incorporation of a natural compound, an idea that was awarded the 3rd place in an advanced program for accelerating ideas in textile business NETT - Novas Empresas Tecnológicas Têxteis. Joana has also been contributing to science dissemination through the strong interaction with high schools (collaboration in several activities at ESB-UCP).
