Biography
José Miguel Fraga Cardoso was born in 1986, in São Torcato (Guimarães - Portugal), and ordained a priest in 2011 in the Archdiocese of Braga (Portugal).
During his pastoral work, between 2011-2014, he was responsible for the Office of the Archbishop Primate of Braga, coordinator of the Archdiocesan Department for Social Communications and formar at the Minor Seminary of Braga. Between 2014 and 2018, he was parish priest in several catholic communities of Fafe (Gontim, Felgueiras, Estorãos, Revelhe and S. Romão de Arões), as well as president of the Lar de Idosos de S. Romão de Arões, an institution that takes care vulnerable elderly people, and president of "Lar da Criança de Revelhe", an institution takes care children and young people at risk. Between 2018-2023, he was sent to pursue ecclesiastical studies in Dogmatic Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (Italy). Since 2023, he work at the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Roman Curia (Vatican). In 2024-2025, he is a professor ("Docente incaricato") at the Pontifical Gregorian University. Since 2025, he has been a researcher at UCP-CITER (Universidade Católica Portuguesa / Research Centre of Theology and Religious Studies).
In terms of academic qualifications, in 2010 he completed the “Bachelor’s degree in Theology" at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Braga) with a thesis entitled «Walking in difference. Difference as a theological category», and in 2014 he completed the “Master’s degree in Theology” whit specialization in Pastoral Theology with a thesis entitled “Living in difference. A proposal in the face of the globalization of indifference». Later, at the Pontifical Gregorian University (Rome), in 2020 he completed another "Master’s degree in Theology” whit specialization in Dogmatic Theology with a thesis entitled “The Resurrected in postmodernity. Interpreting death as a theological place». In 2022, he completed the “Diploma in Practical Theology with a specialization in Family Pastoral”, with a thesis entitled «Where is your son? Towards a daily pedagogy in the face of family crisis». And in 2023, he completed his Doctorate (PhD) in Dogmatic Theology, with a thesis entitled «Towards a sapiential eschatology. The eschatological heritage of Karl Rahner and Johann Baptist Metz».
