Laura Bicheiro

My name is Laura Bicheiro and I am a Subcomissioner in the Public Security Police, in Portugal. After five years of study in the Institute of Police Sciences and Internal Security , I obtained a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Police Sciences and became a Police Chief in the Public Security Police. Throughout my training, I had the opportunity to study various subjects in the areas of security, law, leadership, and communication. Upon completing my degree, I chose to work at the Lisbon Metropolitan Command, specifically in the Police Division of Amadora, where I served as a Police Station Commander. Leading a team of 50 individuals, I recognised the utmost importance of leadership, communication, and organisation in this role. Motivated by these realisations, I decided to further expand my knowledge in these crucial areas for any professional, particularly for a Police Officer. Consequently, I pursued a Post Graduation in Communication Sciences with a specialisation in Communication, Organisation, and Leadership at the Portuguese Catholic University. The experience exceeded my expectations, deepening my desire for academic progression. In 2021, I applied for a PhD in Communication Sciences. This field not only aligns with my personal interests but also offers valuable expertise for positions where knowledge in these areas is an asset, such as the Public Relations Department of the Public Security Police. As a result, I was invited to serve as a Public Relations Officer at the Lisbon Metropolitan Command, a position I currently hold. In this role, I am primarily responsible for acting as a spokesperson and managing a team dedicated to preserving and enhancing the institutional image in various domains, maintaining constant communication with the chain of command. In summary, as a police officer, I face new challenges and situations daily, dedicating myself to overcoming them with great determination. I would describe my professional personality as people oriented, as I strive to build and nurture strong relationships through empathy. Additionally, I am results oriented, consistently achieving high quality goals when I apply myself diligently. Also, I am an inquisitive and curious individual, always eager to learn and cultivate my knowledge.
