Biography

Mafalda Pereira completed her Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2023 and her Bachelor’s Degree in Bioengineering in 2021, both from Escola Superior de Biotecnologia at Universidade Católica Portuguesa. She is currently a researcher at the Centro de Biotecnologia e Química Fina (CBQF) at Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Mafalda has authored two scientific articles, contributed to one book, and has eight published conference abstracts. She has actively participated in several science outreach activities and was involved in the organization of academic events, including being part of the organising committee of Analítica 2024. As a two-year member of the “Clube dos Investigadores”, she gained early laboratory experience and began developing her Master’s dissertation project, focused on iodide quantification as a public health indicator. She has participated in both national and international conferences and has received two academic awards and distinctions. Mafalda is currently a research fellow in the FCT-funded Aqua_Smart project, which aims to develop intelligent, real-time monitoring systems for toxic metals in aquatic environments, combining analytical chemistry with environmental monitoring strategies.
