Biography

Margarida Franca graduated in Geography by the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra. In 2006, she completed her Master's Degree in Human Geography, Regional and Local Planning, at the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa, with the thesis entitled "Utopian City Construction: Planning, Plans and Perception. Coimbra, from reality to utopia". Later she returns to the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra to obtain a doctorate degree in Human Geography. With an affective relation with the Society of Jesus and the "University Centre Manuel da Nóbrega", based in this city, she sought to reconcile her academic career with her religious and spiritual experience and, in this sense, defended the thesis entitled The territorial expression of the religious identity of the Catholic Portuguese Population. Case study in the diocese of Coimbra. Currently she's working at CCDRC (Centre Regional Coordination and Development Commission), seeking to collaborate to a geographic reading of the contribution of public policies to the economic, social and territorial cohesion of the Central region of Portugal. This institution is involved in research projects funded by H2020 and she is the scientific coordinator of doctorates contracted by CCDRC in the scope of Science and Technology Scholarships. In academic terms, she has expressed interest in the area of cultural geography and the geography of religion, trying to analyse, at different geographical scales and dimensions, the multiple identities and territorialities of contemporary societies.
