Biography

Mariana Reis Barbosa, Ph.D. in Psychology of Justice, is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Education and Psychology at the Catholic University of Portugal. She has dedicated her teaching, research, and intervention activities to the area of Peace Psychology and Human Rights. She is coordinator in the Interdisciplinary Course in Human Rights at the Portuguese Catholic University. She was international consultant for the United Nations Development Programme in Angola and has been the national coordinator of various international projects funded by the European Commission (e.g., Safe Zone - Empowering coaches and trainers in sports to prevent youth radicalisation and violent extremism). She is the national coordinator of the Heroic Imagination Project, an international project founded by Philip Zimbardo. She is the Mental Health Coordinator in the Program Waves in You: Surf Therapy for Migrant and Refugee Children. She represents the Portuguese Catholic University on the Executive Committee of the Refugee Support Platform (PAR). She was the founder and field coordinator of the volunteer program 'Refugee Support Platform @ Frontline' in Lesvos, Greece. She was a visiting scholar in Boston University, USA (2007), Universitat Internacional de Catalunya, Spain (2019), Universidad Santo Tomas, Colombia (2023) and Universidad Antonio Narino (2023).
