Biography

Marta Isabel Correia Coelho has acquired solid experience in the field during her Bsc in Biosciences with specialization in Microbiology (ESB-UCP), Master's Degree in Biotechnology (IST-UTL), and PhD in Food Science and Technology and Nutrition, namely production and characterization of functional ingredients and food, by-product upgrading, and genotoxic and cytotoxic effects of food products. Currently, she is the Vice-coordinator of the SWYP group, a researcher at the Center for Fine Biotechnology and Chemistry, and a trainer at the Portuguese Catholic University. She works on developing functional ingredients from by-products, focusing mainly on evaluating the relationship between the effects of their bioactive compounds on the modeling of the gastrointestinal microbiota, biomarkers, and genotoxicity mechanisms involved. She supervised one MSc student and co-supervisor two MSc students from the Biftec EU program, and currently supervises 1 P.hD. student. She has published more than 30 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has an h-index of 15.
