Biography

Marta Vasconcelos completed an undergraduate degree in Biology in 2000 by Universidade de Lisboa, and a PhD in Biotechnology in 2003 by Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and by the International Rice Research Institute (Philippines). From 2003-2008 she was an Associate Researcher at the Children´s Nutrition Research Center (Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, USA). She is Deputy Director of the Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) at Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP). She is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Biotechnology (UCP) and she is a Visiting Researcher at Universidade do Porto. She has published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals. She has completed the supervision/co-supervision of 6 PhD thesis and is currently supervising/co-supervising 8 PhD thesis. In her professional activities, she has interacted with 283 collaborator(s) co-authorship of scientific papers. In particular, she has a long and successful track record in coordination and participation in projects dealing with crop diversification, value chains, plant nutrition, and genetic resources. She is the coordinator of the H2020 project RADIANT (2021-2025). She is the deputy coordinator of the Horizon Europe project COUSIN (2024-2029) and her group coordinates the Horizon project legumES (2024-2028). She was the Deputy Coordinator of the H2020 project TRUE (2017-2021).  She is a participant of STARGATE, H2020-SFS-2019-2 (2021-2024), a participant of the H2020 project INCREASE (H2020-SFS-2019-2 RIA 2020-25); a participant in SYSTEMIC« ERA-HDHL, JPI-OCEANS and FACCE-JPI; 2020-25); and member of the International Advisory Board of several International projects. She is currently the acting president of the International Plant Nutrition Council. She has received 16 awards and/or honors.
