Anne Martina Emonts holds a PhD in German Studies, with specialisation in Cultural Studies from the University of Madeira, Portugal, and is professor emerita of German Culture at the same university. Her Masters in Portuguese Contemporary History was awarded the National Award for Feminist Studies in Portugal in 2001. In 2006 she got her PhD in German Culture (Mechtilde Lichnowsky – Sprachlust und Sprachkritik). Her research areas are Cultural Studies of the early 20th Century, Gender Studies, Cross-Cultural Studies and German Modernism. Currently works on female art production in Portugal, Visual Studies and Film Studies. She published four books, several chapters in books, and many articles in peer reviewed journals. She was awarded post-graduate scholarships (Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach) and, in 2015, a fellowship at the University of London (IMLR/SAS). Throughout many years she was member of the Scientific Board of the Centre of Arts & Humanities of the University of Madeira and was ERASMUS-coordinator for about 15 years. She is member of the Scientific Board of journals, organized international conferences, supervised Master thesis and two doctoral theses, having been member of juries in two other doctoral juries. She is member of the Culture Council of the University of Madeira and cooperating member of the Centre of Communication and Cultural Studies at the Catholic University of Lisbon.
