Biography

Nuno Manuel Queiroz Pimenta de Magalhães is the Dean of the Sport Sciences School of Rio Maior - Polytechnic Institute of Santarém (ESDRM), were he is a full Adjunct Professor and researcher. He works in the field of sports sciences, particularly in the assessment and promotion of health-related fitness and health-enhancing physical activity and lifestyles, mainly for the primary and secondary prevention of chronic diseases. His main areas of interest are the study of body composition and cardiorespiratory fitness, regarded as health-related fitness components. Nuno is committed to working on relevant contributions to people's lives through research and development, including technology-based interventions as part of interdisciplinary teams and approaches, designed to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles. Nuno¿s key competences include creative thinking, problem-solving, interdisciplinary team-work, research funding, research communication, and dissemination to national and international audiences. Nuno is part of interdisciplinary research teams in several national and European R&D projects, namely VASelfCare (https://vaselfcare.rd.ciencias.ulisboa.pt), Train4Health (https://www.train4health.eu) and SEDY2 (https://www.inholland.nl/inhollandcom/about-inholland/sedy2). His communication and dissemination efforts in science include book and book chapters publishing and editing, peer-reviewing, and overall, about 100 papers and presentations in scientific events, including invited lectures and plenary sessions, posters and oral communications, seminars, and workshops. Nuno is a member of the board of the Sociedade Portuguesa para o Estudo da Obesidade (Portuguese Society for the Study of Obesity) and is part of the multidisciplinary Prediabetes Study Group within the Sociedade Portuguesa de Diabetologia (Portuguese Society of Diabetology).
