Biography

Orlando Samões is the head of the Bachelor of Arts (‘Licenciatura’) at the Institute for Political Studies of Universidade Católica Portuguesa (IEP-UCP) and the editor-in-chief of Nova Cidadania Quarterly Journal. He teaches part of ‘The Great Books’ curriculum as well as decision theory. He has been a teaching assistant for political science and contemporary political thought at the Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics, under the supervision of Professor João Carlos Espada. He earned his PhD with a thesis entitled “Natural Liberty and Virtue: A study on the ideas of self-love and benevolence in Adam Smith’s thought”. He also completed his Master's degree in Political Science from IEP-UCP with a thesis on Friedrich Hayek. He was a visiting student at St Anthony’s College, University of Oxford. He has a BA in economics from NOVA School of Business and Economics with specializations in public choice economics and corporate finance. His research concerns political theory and political economy.
