Biography

Pedro Encarnação, Deputy Academic Director of the MSc in Management, is a Senior Affiliate Professor at CATÓLICA-LISBON - Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP). He is the President of AAATE - Association for the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe (biennium 2024-2025), Visiting Professor at the Universidad del Rosario, Bogota, Colombia, and Senior Visiting Researcher at the School of Sociology and Social Policy, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Leeds, UK (2022-2025). He has received the B.Sc. degree in 1994, the M.Sc. degree in 1998, and the Ph.D. degree in 2002, all in Electrical and Computers Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico - Universidade de Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal. From 2000 to 2013 we was with the Faculty of Engineering of the UCP. He served as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Engineering between 2002 and 2008 and as the coordinator of the subject area of Mathematics between 2001 and 2013. In 2008/09 he was a Visiting Professor (Research) at the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Alberta, and at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, both in Edmonton, Canada. He worked with the Dynamical Systems and Ocean Robotics Lab at the Institute for Systems and Robotics, Lisbon, on the problems of nonlinear control with applications to autonomous ocean vehicles. His current research interests include Rehabilitation Engineering, namely robotic assistive technologies to support persons with disabilities.
