Biography

Rita Canaipa holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences with a specialization in Neurosciences and a master's degree in Human Development from the University of Lisbon, where she also earned her degree in Psychology. Accredited by the Portuguese Psychologists Association as a specialist in Neuropsychology and Psychotherapy, she is an assistant professor at the Portuguese Catholic University's Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing. With extensive clinical experience in Fibromyalgia, her research in pain neuroscience explores the relationships between pain, cognition, emotions, and interoception. She studies pain variability, cognitive functioning, social distress in pain reports, and pain response across diverse populations, including dancers, known for their unique physical demands. Her work is dedicated to elucidating the underlying mechanisms of pain perception and modulation to translate the knowledge to community and healthcare professionals and contribute to personalized clinical care, reducing patients' pain and suffering.
