Biography
Portuguese trombonist Rui Pedro De Oliveira Alves graduated from Superior School of Music and Drama (ESMAE-IPP) in Porto. In 2006 he was offered a scholarship from Caloust Gulbenkian Foundation to complete a Masters of Music at the Royal Northern College of Music and a Postgraduate Diploma in Orchestral training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Rui Pedro is a freelance trombonist and he has played, recorded and broadcasted live with some of the leading UK orchestras and chamber groups, most particularly the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. He has also played in concerts and festivals throughout the world with Orquestra Sinfonica do Porto, Orquestra Gulbenkian, Orquestra Sinfonica de Galicia and was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra in 2007 and Jeune Orchestre Atlantique in 2006. Rui Pedro has also played and recorded with modern music ensembles including REMIX Ensemble, RedNote Ensemble and Ensemble Thing.
In 2013 Rui Pedro completed his PhD at the University of St Andrews and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. As a member of the New Wallace Collection Rui Pedro continues to perform and develop his research interests in the history, repertoire and performance practice of historical brass instruments.
