Biography

Sónia Silva is an Invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Braga Regional Center. Since 2020, she has also been an Invited Assistant Professor in the Department of Arts and Communication at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro. She teaches in Organizational and Strategic Communication, and is responsible for various subjects related to Advertising, Public Relations, Marketing Communication Advice and Protocol and Event Organization. She has also taught transversal subjects such as Communication Theories, Research Methodology, Sociology of Communication, Methodology and Quantification of Information and Science Communication. Since 2015, he has also been a collaborating member of the Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS) and, since 2024, an integrated member of the Center for Philosophical and Humanistic Studies (CEFH). In addition to her teaching and research duties, Sónia is currently the Coordinator of the Public Relations and Communication Office of the Braga Regional Center of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Sónia Silva has a PhD in Communication Studies: Technology, Culture and Society from the University of Minho (2020), in partnership with ISCTE-IUL, the University of Beira Interior and the Lusófona University of Humanities and Technologies. Her doctoral thesis entitled "Communicating to be socially responsible: the role of communication in fulfilling the social mission of Portuguese public universities" received an honorable mention and came 3rd in the "Paquete de Oliveira Award for Doctoral Theses in Portuguese Universities", 2021 Edition. Sónia has a degree (2012) and a master's degree (2014) in Communication Sciences - specialization in Advertising and Public Relations, from the University of Minho. Between January 2020 and August 2021, she was part of the communications team for the Factory of the Future project (ID&T Industrial Operations Management sub-project - "Team Management In Industrialization Projects" line of research), which resulted from the University - Industry consortium established between the University of Minho and Bosch Car Multimédia Braga. Within the scope of this project, her research involved the implementation of an action research methodology, the main objective of which was to implement a communication strategy to promote the improvement of information and interaction processes in teams involved in the management of industrialization projects. Her research focuses on the areas of Organizational and Strategic Communication, Advertising, Public Relations, Risk Communication, Crisis Communication, Health Communication, Science Communication and Social Responsibility. With a scientific career that began in 2016, Sónia Silva has several scientific publications in the field of Communication Sciences and frequently participates in national and international congresses. In addition, she has been active in the scientific community by participating in the scientific and organizing committees of various congresses, conferences, seminars and workshops and has collaborated in the review and editing of scientific publications. She is currently co-authoring an issue of the journal Comunicação e Sociedade on the theme of "Advertising and Sustainable Development". Her professional experience also includes her role as advisor in the organization of the 8th International Conference of the European Association for Research in Education and Communication (ECREA), as well as leading and directing the Communication Office of the University of Minho Law School between May 2013 and July 2015
