Biography
Sara Amorim holds a degree in Chemistry (2007) and a Master’s in Medicinal Chemistry (2009), both from the University of Minho. In 2020 she completed her PhD in Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine, and Stem cells from I3B's in collaboration with Ipatimup (Porto, Portugal). Her PhD work focused on developing 2D and 3D platforms to mimic the ECM of gastric cancer cells. In 2020 she became a post-doctoral researcher at I3Bs (UMinho) where she developed 3D biomaterials to study the invasiveness character of glioblastoma multiforme. Additionally, she worked on functionalizing 2D surfaces using different strategies, for biosensing applications and, the synthesis of inorganic silica nanoparticles for bone regeneration. More recently, she has been dedicated to the development of a biocompatible cardiac patch for the regeneration and functional recovery of cardiac tissue. This latest subject gave her an approved FCT-funded Project as Principal Investigator (I-Care - Implantable 3D-bioprinted glycopeptide-based patch for Cardiac tissue Repair (2023.00076.RESTART)). In September 2024, Sara joined the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa of Porto as a Researcher. Her current research focuses on biomaterials for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. She is also an Invited Professor on the course unit of Tissue Engineering and Biofabrication, of the Master’s in Biomedical Engineering (ESB, Porto).
