Biography

PhD in Psychology from the Universities of Lisbon and Coimbra (2015), master in Psychology in the specialty of Stress and Well-being (2008) and a degree in Psychology (1996, branch of Psychotherapy and Counselling) from the University of Lisbon. Postgraduate psychotherapist in Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy (CBT), with international further training in Emotion-Focused Psychotherapy. Recognized by the Portuguese Psychologists' Association [Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses] as a Specialist in Clinical and Health Psychology and in Community Psychology, areas in which I have extensive experience. Since September 2017 I have been a full-time Invited Assistant Professor at the School of Human Sciences at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, becoming an Assistant Professor in November 2023. Previously, I have worked as a Clinical and Community Psychologist, and also in the context of adult education, with prior part-time teaching at the School of Early Childhood Education (ISEC, Lisboa) between 2004 and 2015. These years, I taught about 20 different courses in Psychology at both undergraduate and graduate levels. At Universidade Católica Portuguesa, I actively participate in the academic management of the School, where I currently coordinate the Institute of Family Sciences and the Master Program in Family Studies, being also a member - since 2020 - of the Scientific Council, the Coordination Council, and the Pedagogical Council. Since May 2023 I am a member of the Board of Directors at the School of Human Sciences. As an integrated member of the Católica Research Center for Psychological, Family, and Social Well-being (CRC-W), I have been increasing my contribution to national and international research projects, namely in the Resilient and safe societies, families, and individuals axis, sub-axis Family adjustment and development processes. This involvement has resulted in several publications, including peer-reviewed scientific articles, book chapters and conference presentations. I supervised dozens of MSc dissertations and clinical internships, and I was a jury member for several academic degree theses. The main focus of my research has been the study of factors promoting well-being and satisfaction in couple relationships, having translated and adapted for Portugal relevant questionnaires and assessment instruments in this field (couple commitment, generativity, and dyadic coping). Since October 2023, I am working in two international research projects, strengthening international research networks, and promoting collaboration in the area of family studies: one with Centro di Ateneo Studi e Ricerche sulla Famiglia [Family Studies and Research University Centre] (Milan), studying couple and in-law relationships; one another with Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Italy) and Ramon Llull University (Spain) studying couples resilience. Both studies are still underway aimed at analyzing and deepen understanding regarding couple and family relationships, particularly when they face adverse circumstances, and in modelling different forms of intervention for and with the family. More recently, I have also been studying pedagogical innovation at the University (namely, Service-Learning approach) and adaptation factors in higher education. I am currently coordinating PROTEUS project at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, funded by the Portuguese Directorate General for Higher Education, and aiming to support the integration of university students. My community and media presence highlights my commitment to sharing knowledge and raising awareness about psychology, wellbeing, mental health, and the benefits of high-quality couple relationships.
