Project Details

Description

This project arose from a broader initiative dedicated to analysing development strategies in the border areas between Portugal and Spain, which were largely identified as being in a state of marked socio-economic depression.

The project was a first step towards finding solutions to the specific problems of border areas, defining concrete development programmes for areas affected by the possible opening of border posts, with a view to integrated intervention.

This general objective was particularly relevant at a time when an increased flow of people and goods was expected as a result of Portugal's full integration into the EEC, a flow that should be distributed evenly across various border areas.

The project, coordinated by Carminda Cavaco, was carried out in collaboration with Jorge Gaspar, Mário Lages, João Salis Gomes, Carlos Laranjo Medeiros, Pedro Roseta and Helena Rato.
