This study follows a tradition, both timely and crucial, of recovering and raising awareness of female writers, journalists and notable women from the distant past. They remained trapped there, with no one to rehabilitate their works, their labour, or recognise their deserved value.
Elisa Curado, from Leiria, began to distinguish herself more than a century ago, in 1875, in the Leiria press and later in Lisbon, for her relevant and audacious role in Portuguese society, with regard to the status of women and beyond. This study is an act of reconstructing the past and understanding the present moment.
The study gave rise to the work ‘Elisa Curado (1858-1933). A woman of causes’, published by Universidade Católica Press, number 30 in the ‘Studies and Documents’ collection.
